Broken windows at the Electric Auto-Lite factory, photograph
Description
A black and white photograph of the broken windows at the Electric Auto-Lite plant in the aftermath of a riot by strikers. The plant employees had been on strike beginning February 25, 1934 and rioting began May 22 when picketers confronted strikebreakers and Ohio National Guardsmen. When the rioting was over the plant was heavily damaged. Called the ""Battle of Toledo"" the strike was a victory for the American Federation of Labor and marked the beginning of unionization in the automobile industry. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934. The photographer is unknown.
