Manned machine gun at south corner of company office building, photograph

Description

A black and white photograph taken by Lawrence D. Heitt of five Ohio National guardsmen as they man a Browning machine gun during the Electric Auto-Lite Strike of May, 1934. The soldiers and their gun are said to be located at the south corner of the company office complex which was heavily damaged during rioting by strikers in May of 1934. When the Ohio National Guard was called on the scene of the strike, the strikers began to riot by throwing bricks and other debris at the troops. Rioting commenced on May 22 and continued until May 27. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934.
