Title

Ohio National Guard truck unloading troops, photograph

Description

A black and white photograph of Ohio National guardsmen as they unload from a truck used to transport them to the site of rioting during the Electric Auto-Lite Strike of May, 1934. Taken by photographer Lawrence D. Hiett, the photo shows the damage to the company building and debris in the street in the aftermath of the riots. When the rioting was over two strikers had been killed by gunfire and many more injured from flying bricks and other debris along with hand-to-hand combat. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934.
