Description

A black and white photograph taken by Lawrence D. Heitt of an Ohio National guardsman as he protects the damaged factory building during the Electric Auto-Lite Strike of May, 1934. When the Ohio National Guard was called on the scene of the strike, the strikers began to riot by throwing bricks and other debris at the troops. When the rioting was over two strikers had been killed by gunfire and many more injured from flying bricks and other debris along with hand-to-hand combat. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934.
