Ohio National Guardsmen with Browning machine gun, photograph
Description
An account of the resource
A black and white photograph of two Ohio National Guardsmen as they man a Browning machine gun among the brick littered street and the broken windows at the Electric Auto-Lite plant in the aftermath of a riot by strikers. Other guardsmen and men in civilian clothing are surveying the damage. The plant employees had been on strike beginning February 25, 1934 and rioting began May 22 when picketers confronted strikebreakers and Ohio National Guardsmen. When the rioting was over two strikers had been killed by gunfire and many more injured from flying bricks and other debris along with hand-to-hand combat. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934. The photographer is unknown.
