Description
A black and white photograph takne by Lawrence D. Heitt showing a burned and overturned automobile in the street in the aftermath of rioting by striking Electric Auto-Lite employees in May of 1934. The car lays in front of the damaged factory building where Ohio National guardsmen and men in civilian clothing are gathering on the sidwalk in front of the complex. When the Ohio National Guard was called on the scene of the strike, the strikers began to riot by throwing bricks and other debris at the troops. In addition to property damage, when the rioting was over, two were reported killed by gunfire and others injured by flying bricks and debris. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934.
