Description

A black and white photograph taken by Lawrence D. Heitt of troops from the Ohio National guard as they push a crowd of people away from the parking lot of the Auto-Lite factory after the rioting during the Electric Auto-Lite strike in May, 1934. When the Ohio National Guard was called on the scene of the strike, the strikers began to riot by throwing bricks and other debris at the troops. In addition to property damage, when the rioting was over, two were reported killed by gunfire and others injured by flying bricks and debris. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934.
