Description

A black and white photograph taken by Lawrence D. Heitt of an Ohio national guardsman, a securtity officer and men in civilian clothing as they look out of the watchman's booth during the Electric Auto-Lite Strike of May, 1934. The booth, located at the main gate of the factory and office complex, was heavily damaged during rioting by strikers in May of 1934. When the Ohio National Guard was called on the scene of the strike, the strikers began to riot by throwing bricks and other debris at the troops. Rioting commenced on May 22 and continued until May 27. The rioting ended on May 27th and the labor dispute was settled June 1, 1934.
